Lockdown 2021 - Blended Learning in Science

Before lockdown, we were using Kent Science to teach in class, which involves very practical and hands-on activities. This has proved slightly more difficult for children learning from home. All our lessons are live and the children watch the experiments and/or have the opportunity to try them at home, as staff adjust the activities to suit home learning. Staff have been encouraged to swap the Science units around from the long term plan to try and use those that are more suitable for online learning too. The amount of time given to teach Science is flexible during this period and can be reduced to one hour a week to reduce screen time and aid with timetabling.

Science at Darwen St James

Science at Darwen St James school nurtures natural curiosity and allows children to ask questions and develop the skills they need to answer those questions. Science helps pupils to: investigate problems, learn how science works and discover why science matters in the world.
