Reception- Fine Motor Skills- Supertato

The classroom was a hive of focused energy as the Reception children transformed into little heroes to create their very own Supertato characters. Using the Mr. Potato Head sets, the children carefully exercised their fine motor skills, pinching and pushing colorful ears, eyes, and capes into the plastic spuds to bring their defenders of the fruit aisle to life. The creative mission continued at the art station, where the children demonstrated impressive hand-eye coordination and scissor control to navigate around the curves of their paper potatoes. Once the cutting was complete, the real decision-making began; with tongues poked out in concentration, they sifted through a tray of vibrant felt, glittery masks, and paper boots to select the perfect heroic ensemble for their new starchy sidekicks.

Reception- Physical Development- I Hear Thunder

The school hall was alive with energy as the Reception children transformed their PE lesson into a rhythmic exploration of the elements. Using their basketballs to mimic the sounds of the weather, the children practiced focused ball control to narrate a passing storm. To represent a gentle spring rain, they used light, pitter-patter fingertip taps, before transitioning into heavy, rhythmic bounces that echoed like loud claps of thunder. The highlight of the session was the drop and catch sequence; the children released their balls to the floor and caught them sharply on the rebound, perfectly synchronizing the "crack" of the ball hitting the wood with the visual of a lightning strike. Their coordination improved with every "storm," showing impressive concentration as they balanced the imaginative storytelling with the physical skill of keeping their balls steady and secure.

Reception- Physical Development- Forest Friday

Over the past few weeks, our Reception children have really thrown themselves into Forest Friday and made the most of being outdoors. They’ve loved exploring the school and nursery grounds, turning into little builders as they created bug houses and heading off on an imaginative “Bear Hunt” through the bushes. Alongside all the fun, these sessions have also supported their physical development. Moving across uneven ground and using a range of outdoor equipment has helped to build both their gross and fine motor skills. Whether they were carrying logs to build a habitat or carefully using small tools, it’s been lovely to see their confidence and coordination grow in the fresh air.

Year 3 - P.E - Working As A Team

Our Year 3 adventurers have been busy trading their individual capes for team jerseys this week! We’ve started our journey into Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA), focusing on the two most important tools in any explorer's kit: Communication and Trust. This week we worked in teams to build human words which was very challenging. We then used our communication skills to guide a blindfolded team member to a set of words.

Year 3 - P.E. - Dancing Like Machines

Year 3 had a fantastic PE this week, using "Get Set 4 PE" to turn our bodies into mechanical parts. We investigated how machines move in straight lines and jerky pulses to create a class performance. Ask your child to show you their "robotic isolation" move tonight—you’ll be impressed by their control!

Reception- Physical Development- Gross Motor Painting

In our Reception classroom this week, the children refined their gross motor skills through the expressive act of painting tigers. Rather than being confined to small movements, the children use their entire arms and shoulders to sweep across large canvases, building the core strength and postural stability necessary for later physical development. When creating the tiger's face, they practice purposeful circular movements, rotating their arms from the shoulder and elbow to master the coordination required for fluid shapes. This physical effort is paired with cognitive milestones as they engage in color selection; reaching across the easel to choose fiery oranges and deep blacks encourages crossing the midline, a crucial neurological development. As they pivot their bodies and stretch to add stripes, these young artists are not just painting—they are strengthening the large muscle groups that provide the foundation for balance, coordination, and eventual fine motor control.

Our Reception class transformed the school hall into a bustling transport hub during this week’s energetic P.E. lesson! The children took the driver’s seat as they explored different ways of moving, cleverly linking their actions to various modes of transport. They zoomed across the floor like aeroplanes with outstretched wings, chugged along in lines like trains, and navigated the space as nimble cars. To develop their listening skills and coordination, we played a high-speed game of "Traffic Lights": Red: They practiced their balance with an immediate stop. Yellow: They found a steady rhythm with a gentle jog. Green: They shifted into top gear for a fast run! The hall was filled with giggles as the children navigated tricky "speed bumps" by jumping high and even mastered the art of reversing without any "crashes." It was a fantastic session that combined physical agility with imaginative play and following instructions.

Year 4 Practicing Our Hockey Skills

This week in P.E., Year 4 have been developing their fundamental hockey skills. We focused on the importance of safe and effective movement, with the children practicing how to jog while maintaining a secure stick position on their right-hand side. To sharpen their reactions and agility, we played a numbered game: at the call of 'one,' pupils side-stepped over their sticks, and at 'two,' they performed a jump. The session finished with a focus on ball control, where students worked in pairs to 'tap' and protect the ball from their partner while experimenting with different speeds of travel.

Year 3 - P.E - Hockey Skills

Year 3 had a fantastic lesson, mastering the core fundamentals of hockey. The lesson focused on building a solid foundation through three key areas: The Perfect Grip: Students practiced the "shake hands" grip, ensuring the left hand stayed at the top of the stick with the flat side always facing the ball. Close Control: Through a series of dribbling drills, the children learned to keep the ball "glued" to their stick using short, controlled touches to navigate around obstacles. The Push Pass: We concluded with partner work, focusing on the push pass. Students worked on keeping the stick in contact with the ball and following through toward their target for maximum accuracy.
