Year 1 Lunar New Year Workshop

Celebrating the Lunar New Year with Year 1! Today, our Year 1 hall was filled with energy and excitement as we hosted an incredible Lunar Workshop with West End in Schools! The children took part in an expressive dance session to bring the story of The Great Race to life. We practiced following instructions to mimic the movements of the different Zodiac animals—from the clever Rat to the powerful Dragon! It was a brilliant, interactive way to learn about the traditions of the Lunar New Year through movement and music. Our little performers showed fantastic focus and creativity. Well done, Year 1! #DarwenStJames #Year1 #LunarNewYear #TheGreatRace #WestEndInSchools #ExpressiveDance #CulturalLearning #NurturingAmbition

In P.E. last week, the children really enjoyed and engaged in our yoga session. It was a fun and energetic way to learn new skills using our bodies to develop both gross and fine motor skills. The children all tried their very best to achieve each yoga pose, using their upper body strength in some poses and lower body strength in others.

Year 2 - PE - Team Building

How can you find your way when you cannot see where you are going? This week, Year 2 have been putting their communication skills to the test during collaborative challenges in PE. The objective was to develop trust by guiding a blindfolded partner towards coloured cones and then into matching coloured hoops. While the children initially led their partners by the hand, the difficulty increased when they progressed to using only their voices. This shift required the pupils to think critically about how to give clear, precise instructions to ensure their partner felt safe and successful. It was a fantastic session that showcased the children's growing empathy and their ability to lead others through calm, effective communication. #PhysicalEducation #Year2 #CommunicationSkills #PrimaryPE #TrustGames #SchoolSports

Year 5&6 Athletics

Who knew so much energy could fit into one sports hall? On Tuesday 27th January, our Year 5 and 6 athletes headed to Darwen Vale High School for a thrilling indoor athletics competition that tested their speed, strength, and stamina. From the explosive power of the triple jump and javelin throw to the frantic pace of the relays, obstacle courses, and speed bounce, our pupils threw themselves into every event with incredible determination. While the physical performances were impressive, we are most proud of the way they represented our school; their sportsmanship and "give-it-your-all" attitude were truly inspiring. Well done to all our competitors for showing such fantastic grit and teamwork! ????✨ #SchoolSports #IndoorAthletics #PrimaryPE #DarwenStJames #TeamWork #ProudSchool #YoungAthletes #SchoolGames #ActiveKids #GivingOurAll #DarwenVale #LancashireSport #Year5and6

Our Preschoolers had a blast in P.E. last week! We’ve been working hard on our gross motor skills using the parachute and a ball. We started with a round of "Popcorn Pop"—everyone held the edge and worked together to make the ball bounce high and low like a kernel of corn! Then, we tested our reflexes with "Cat and Mouse," where one child sat in the middle trying to catch the ball as the rest of the group used the parachute to keep it moving. Lots of giggles and great teamwork all around! ???? #PreschoolPE #GrossMotorSkills #ActiveLearning #Teamwork #EarlyYears

Year 2 - PE - Team Building

Can your child solve a puzzle using only their words and teamwork? This week in PE, our Year 2 students did exactly that as they tackled small-group challenges designed to build their cooperation and communication skills. The focus was on ensuring that every voice in the group was heard and valued, helping the children understand that a team is only as strong as its listeners. By practicing how to give clear, calm instructions, the students discovered the secret to success: when we communicate effectively, even the trickiest obstacles become easy to overcome!

Year 5 Find Their Groove with ‘Dance by Chance’! This term, Year 5 have jumped into an exciting new Dance unit, following the Get Set 4 PE curriculum. The children have been exploring the creative theme of ‘Dance by Chance’, where they use random elements—like the roll of a dice or the flip of a card—to determine their next moves. This approach has been fantastic for encouraging improvisation and teamwork. It’s been wonderful to see the children's confidence grow as they turn unexpected prompts into impressive, unique choreography!

Year 5 PE - Musical Dodgeball!

This week, Year 5's PE lesson culminated in an energetic and strategic game of Musical Dodgeball. This fun activity required students to actively use all the throwing, dodging, and teamwork skills developed in previous sessions. The core game played as usual when the music was on, but when the music suddenly stopped, the player holding the ball was swiftly eliminated. This twist kept students highly engaged and challenged them to maintain situational awareness right up until the final, victorious player was crowned.

In P.E. last week, the children were practising their throwing skills. They worked in pairs, with one child holding a hoop as a target and the other pretending their ball was a snowball to throw through it. They had a great time and worked really well with their partners. Lovely teamwork all round.
