Sustainability at Darwen St James
At Darwen St James, we are proud to be part of the Cidari Multi Academy Trust. Together, we are working hard to give our children the best education while taking care of the planet. We believe that a healthy, green environment helps every child grow, learn, and thrive.
Our Climate Action Plan
To help fight climate change, our Trust has launched a clear climate action plan. This is our guide to cutting down our waste, teaching our pupils about nature, and building greener habits across our whole school.
Our plan focuses on five main areas.
School Grounds & Buildings: Saving energy and water, switching to eco-friendly LED lighting, and recycling as much as we can.
Learning & Lessons: Teaching children about the environment in class and using our outdoor spaces to help them connect with nature.
Pupil Leadership: Giving our children a voice through our Eco-Council and eco-clubs so they can help lead the change.
Wildlife & Nature: Creating green spaces on our school grounds—like wildflower patches, bug hotels, and planting trees to support local wildlife.
Working Together: Teaming up with parents, carers, and local groups to share ideas and make a bigger difference together.
How We Stay on Track
To make sure we keep our promises:
A Trust CLimate Lead guides the plan across all our partner schools.
Our own Climate Champion leads green projects right here at Darwen St James.
We regularly check our energy use and waste so we can measure our progress each year.
"By working together—pupils, staff, parents, and neighbours—we can protect our environment and build a brighter, greener future for our children."
