Minecraft Church
Minecraft Church communities are made up of people of all ages who love meeting up together to play Minecraft, exploring faith in Christ at the same time. There are a number of Minecraft Churches, but there are also resources for those looking to start a community of their own. Rev Kev runs a Minecraft Church at St James' over Darwen, and they recently had a team from the Church of England head office come and make a film about Minecraft Church! Very exciting! Check out the video below, you might recognise some familiar faces! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmui7LTsFX4
Year 2 Music - Exploring Tempo
In Music Year 2 have been learning about musical terms such as tempo (fast and slow ) and how music affects our moods. They have listened to the song;' Walking To School' and imagined that they were sad and walked quietly and slowly to school. More pictures to follow next week!
Online Safety - MYLOL
Teenagers’ blossoming interest in romantic relationships and their devotion to online networking is a potent combination – and, regrettably, not always a safe one. It raises all kind of worries about the possibility of sharing intimate images or deeply personal information; and that’s simply with contacts their own age – to say nothing of the chance of connecting with an older stranger. MyLOL – a site which specifically facilitates interaction between 13 to 19-year-olds – has amassed around a million users worldwide, but sadly its safeguarding protocols can’t match that level of success. The ease with which an adult could pose as a teen under a bogus birthdate makes grooming a realistic threat – and that’s far from the platform’s only risk, as our guide explains.
Year 1 Guided Reading
Year 1 have enjoyed reading this week! They have worked hard looking at new vocabulary, sounding out, blending and talking about what is happening in the story.
Reception RE - The Walls of Jericho
In RE, Reception used their amazing acting skills to learn the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho. Some children built the city of Jericho and then others followed Joshua with their trumpets and walked around the city 7 times. The walls came down with a lot of noise!
Year One - English
Year 1 have been learning about Toys of the Past in English this term and thoroughly enjoyed our Experience day last week. We made party hats and enjoyed a teddy bears picnic (in class because it was raining) but we didn't let that spoil our fun! We also thought of different adjectives and alliterative words to describe teddy bears. E.g Tiny Teddy, Terrific Teddy, Brown Bear, Beautiful Bear and use these ideas in our writing the following day.
Year 6 - English
Over the last two days in our English lesson we have been learning about Mount Everest. We have learned a lot of interesting facts and discussed what we need to take in our rucksack.
Pre School - PSHE - Feelings
Today in PSHE we talked about our feelings, exploring happy and sad and what makes us feel like this. We talked about who we would go to if we felt sad and who we would share our happy news with. The children then explored different textures that link to how we would feel in our tummy when we are happy and sad. The children had some fantastic answers and loved touching all the different objects and discussing how that made them feel.
Reception Class - English - Writing about Penguins
Reception class have been learning all about penguins this half term. During our English lesson the children wrote the sentence ‘the daddy penguin hugs his baby.’ The children applied their phonetic knowledge, identifying tricky words and using their segmenting skills. Great effort everyone!
