Year 2 - Music - Pitch
Children are engaged in learning about music, specifically exploring the concept of pitch. They are shown using various instruments, using hands-on musical exploration and discovery.
Year 2 - Music - Exploring Pitch
In Year 2 music, we're channeling our inner Von Trapp children to explore the exciting world of pitch using scales! Just like Maria taught her family "Do-Re-Mi," we're discovering how sounds can be high or low by singing and playing simple musical ladders. Inspired by the melodies of "The Sound of Music," we're learning to hear and create our own high and low sounds, stepping up and down our musical scales to bring songs to life.
Nursery - Maths - Five Little Speckled Frogs
This week the children have shown high levels of engagement with the chia slime, exploring its texture with their hands, describing it as "slimy" and "squishy." When prompted to search for the hidden frogs, they demonstrated great observation skills, carefully moving aside the twigs, leaves and plants within the slime. As each frog was discovered, the children showed excitement and a developing understanding of object permanence. Upon finding a frog, most children were able to place it onto the designated log. As a group, they participated in singing "Five Little Speckled Frogs,". The children used some number language when counting the frogs, with some friends counting all of the frogs accurately.
Year 2 - Music - Exploring Pitch
Year 2's music lesson was exploring pitch by having the children experiment with filling glasses with varying levels of water and then tapping them gently to hear the different sounds produced. Alongside this, they used xylophones to further investigate high and low notes and how the length of the bars affects the pitch.
Nursery - Music - Loud And Quiet Sounds
The nursery class engaged in a lively exploration of loud and quiet sounds, focusing on how their actions could influence the volume produced by the drum. The children eagerly took turns experimenting with different approaches to playing the instrument. We observed a range of techniques, from gentle taps with soft hands or fingertips resulting in quiet sounds, to more energetic banging with open palms or fists creating much louder noises. It was interesting to witness the children's growing understanding of cause and effect – how the force and method of their interaction with the drum directly impacted the auditory outcome. Some children intuitively adjusted their movements, seemingly delighted by their ability to control the volume. This hands-on exploration fostered not only an awareness of sound intensity but also encouraged experimentation, active listening, and a playful approach to understanding basic physical principles.
Year 2 - Music - Exploring Pitch
Year 2 enjoyed a fun and engaging music lesson all about pitch, using xylophones. The children had great fun exploring high and low pitch, identifying and playing different sounds and creating simple patterns.
Year 2 - Music - Pitch Doodles
Year 2 had a fun and creative music lesson, exploring pitch through "doodles" in an engaging way to visualise and understand sound. There were lots of interesting and varied lines being drawn as they listened to different pitches. What a fantastic way to make music tangible!!
Year 1 - Music - Singing Our Favourite Songs
For our last music lesson of the term, Year 1 sang their favourite songs from the term. They played their instruments and moved their bodies showing the different musical dynamics they have learnt.
Nursery - P.E - Sleeping Bunnies!
What a fantastic time we had during P.E today! Our little bunnies were amazing at 'Sleeping Bunnies,' listening carefully and moving their bodies with so much energy! They stretched, hopped, crawled and wiggled their way through a fun-filled P.E. session. They exhibited some brilliant listening skills and were able to follow instructions throughout the song. The children enjoyed practicing their gross body movements and experimenting with different ways to move. The children also joined in with the sleeping bunnies song, singing and dancing with excitement.
Year 2 - Music - Soundscapes
Year 2 students explored the concept of "Morning Soundscapes" in their music lesson. They experimented with a variety of percussion instruments, creating different sounds and rhythms, while also discussing musical elements like tempo, pitch, and dynamics. The children worked individually and in groups, demonstrating creativity and collaboration as they brought their morning soundscapes to life.
Nursery - Music - Identifying Different Instrument Sounds
During our Listening and attention lesson the children have been identifying different sounds. First we learnt the names of the instruments and how to play them, listening to the sounds that each instrument made. The children then used their brilliant listening skills to identify a hidden instrument just by the sound it made! In our busy classroom this was a little bit tricky but the children did a great job and were able to distinguish between the environmental sounds and the target instrument sound. They then mimicked the sound they heard on the corresponding instrument on their side of the barrier. Well done Nursery class!
Year 2 Music - Soundscapes
