Year 5 PE - OAA: Making Maps and Following Directions
Cones, compasses, and coordinate grids! Year 5 took their Team Building PE lesson indoors this week to master the art of navigation. Working together, they created and followed complex maps using cardinal points, carefully avoiding the 'Danger Cone'! It was a brilliant lesson filled with fun, problem-solving, and fantastic teamwork. Well done, Year 5!
Year 5 PE - OAA: Teamwork Challenges!
Mission Impossible? Not for Year 5! Our PE lessons have been all about teamwork this term! We’ve been putting our communication skills under the microscope with some tricky "Cooperation Challenges." From describing complex equipment layouts to partners who couldn't see them, to the nerve-wracking "Skipping Rope Bridge" football roll, the children have had to be assertive and patient. These tasks were incredibly tough, but the buzz of excitement when that football finally reached the end was amazing! We are so proud of the grit and collaborative spirit on display. Who knew PE could be such a brain-teaser?
Year 3 - P.E. - Team Games
Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge! Our Year 3 team brought the energy to the hall today for an epic session of Dodgeball! While we stayed indoors, the competitive spirit was through the roof as the students put their teamwork and reflexes to the ultimate test. This wasn't just about throwing balls—it was a masterclass in cooperation and quick thinking. We focused on how to defend our teammates, when to take a strategic risk, and the importance of playing fair under pressure.
Year 2 PE: Defending skills
Our Year 2 athletes were on fire in PE, mastering the art of defending! We’ve been learning that a great team isn't just about scoring goals... It’s about stopping them, too! From "ready stances" to quick footwork, the children showed fantastic focus in our goalkeeping games.
Year 5 Dance: West End In Schools Workshop
Our Year 5 pupils had an incredible time bringing the story of Chinese New Year to life this week! We were thrilled to welcome West End in Schools for an energetic dance workshop. The children didn't just learn the choreography; they fully embraced their roles, leaping and grooving as they transformed into the different animals from the traditional tale. From mastering tricky dance steps to exploring cultural history through movement, the energy in the hall was electric! A huge thank you to West End in Schools for such an inspiring and fun-filled session.
Year 6: Lunar New Year Workshop
This week year 6 celebrated the Lunar New Year with a dance workshop. The class really enjoyed being active and getting to work collaboratively together in a different way.
Year 2: Lunar New Year dance workshop
Dancing Through the Great Race! Our hall was alive with energy as our pupils took part in a vibrant Lunar New Year Dance Workshop! To celebrate the Year of the Horse, the children didn't just learn about the Legend of the Great Race... They lived it! Through movement and choreography, they told the story of how the twelve animals of the Zodiac crossed the finish line.
Year 4 - The Lunar New Year
Year 4 really enjoyed their dance workshop this week. We got to explore the Lunar New Year in a creative way and learn moves to tell a story through dance. Year 4 were very good at remembering the moves for each different animal and were even better when given the choice to move in the way of their chosen animal. The final performance was fantastic to watch - well done, Year 4!
Year 1 Lunar New Year Workshop
Celebrating the Lunar New Year with Year 1! Today, our Year 1 hall was filled with energy and excitement as we hosted an incredible Lunar Workshop with West End in Schools! The children took part in an expressive dance session to bring the story of The Great Race to life. We practiced following instructions to mimic the movements of the different Zodiac animals—from the clever Rat to the powerful Dragon! It was a brilliant, interactive way to learn about the traditions of the Lunar New Year through movement and music. Our little performers showed fantastic focus and creativity. Well done, Year 1! #DarwenStJames #Year1 #LunarNewYear #TheGreatRace #WestEndInSchools #ExpressiveDance #CulturalLearning #NurturingAmbition
Pre-School-P.E-Yoga
In P.E. last week, the children really enjoyed and engaged in our yoga session. It was a fun and energetic way to learn new skills using our bodies to develop both gross and fine motor skills. The children all tried their very best to achieve each yoga pose, using their upper body strength in some poses and lower body strength in others.
Year 3 - P.E - Dancing Like Machines
Our Year 3 dancers turned the school hall into a living, breathing factory floor this week! As part of our latest PE unit, the children have been exploring mechanical movement and the fascinating shapes associated with heavy machinery.
Year 2 - PE - Team Building
How can you find your way when you cannot see where you are going? This week, Year 2 have been putting their communication skills to the test during collaborative challenges in PE. The objective was to develop trust by guiding a blindfolded partner towards coloured cones and then into matching coloured hoops. While the children initially led their partners by the hand, the difficulty increased when they progressed to using only their voices. This shift required the pupils to think critically about how to give clear, precise instructions to ensure their partner felt safe and successful. It was a fantastic session that showcased the children's growing empathy and their ability to lead others through calm, effective communication. #PhysicalEducation #Year2 #CommunicationSkills #PrimaryPE #TrustGames #SchoolSports
