Nursery - Maths - Constructing A Brick House For The Little Pig
Our focused story for this week has been 'The three little pigs'. The children have been experimenting with different materials to build houses for the pigs. Today we made brick houses with the lego. The children persevered when linking the blocks together and made some beautiful structures for their pigs to live in. Some children used positional language in their play describing the placement of their bricks, 'on top'. We then pretended to be the big bad wolf to see if our brick houses were strong or if they would fall down!

Some children expressed their opinions with thumbs up or thumbs down, others used sound effects such as 'mmm' or 'yukk' and some children vocalised 'yummy' and even asked for 'more please'. The children really enjoyed snack time today!
Nursery - Literacy - Mark Making
During our Chinese new year celebrations, the children made their own red envelopes and gifted them to a friend in class. The children used various different pencil grips to hold their crayons and scribed on their paper to create marks. Some children were even able to give meanings to their marks and tell their friends what they had drawn. The children then placed their good luck pictures inside red envelopes, along with a chocolate golden coin to represent the money usually gifted in these Chinese traditions. The class enjoyed exchanging their envelopes with each other and talking about the pictures they had drawn.
Nursery - Maths - Using Size And Number Language
During maths this week we have been working on number language and understanding size. The children played a game together, hiding golden coins under different sized cups. The only clue they could give to their friends, to help find the coins, was the size of the cup they were hidden under. The children worked really hard to identify the big, medium and small cups. Once the coins were found, the children were encouraged to count their coins, some children did this independently!

Wake Up Wednesday - Health and Fitness Apps
Over time, more and more fitness apps have been finding their way into circulation. Usually free to download – at least initially – these apps claim to offer helpful advice and assistance in routine management to those looking to lead a healthier lifestyle. While these platforms can be useful, they do present several safety concerns. These issues become more significant when we consider that children and young people can use these apps to stay active – whether out of concern for their own health or for reasons of body image. Our free guide breaks down the risks of health and fitness apps and offers expert advice on how to address these concerns to safeguard younger users.

Our fine motor focus this week has been threading! The children were provided with wooden dowels and big beads, their task, to fill up their dowels with various different shapes. This activity has been available for the children to explore all week and they have thoroughly enjoyed filling and emptying their dowels. Some children were able to use their maths knowledge to count their beads and also describe the shape and colour of each bead they used. Well done, nursery class.
Nursery - Maths - Positional Language
Linking with this weeks story, 'The three billy goats gruff', the children have been exploring a story set up while using selected positional language, 'on top' and 'under' to describe the position of the different characters. The children used their knowledge of the story to help them build on their understanding, they were able to place the troll under the bridge and vocalise 'under' they were also able to place the goats on top of the bridge and correctly identify their position.
