Nursery And Pre-School - Geography - Where Did I Go On Holiday?

This week, our Nursery and Pre-School children have been exploring different holiday destinations around the world to build their understanding of global geography. To support this topic, families kindly sent in photographs of the children on their own holidays. The children thoroughly enjoyed showcasing these pictures to their peers, proudly sharing stories about their personal holiday experiences, the things they saw, and how they traveled. Following these discussions, the classes gathered around our giant globe. Together, the children helped pinpoint exactly where each holiday destination was located in relation to where we live. This interactive lesson provided a wonderful, personal way for our youngest learners to begin understanding world maps, distance, and the diverse world around them.

Nursery And Pre-School - R.E - The Story Of Baby Moses

This week, our Nursery and Pre-School children have been exploring the biblical story of Moses, focusing on how his mother floated him to safety down the river Nile to be rescued by the Egyptian princess. The lesson began with the children watching an animated retelling of the story to build their foundational understanding of the narrative and its key characters. This visual introduction captured their imagination and prepared them for the hands-on learning that followed. Afterward, the children visited the dedicated R.E. table, which was set up with themed props. They used these storytelling pieces to collaboratively retell the journey of baby Moses, practice sequencing the events, and discuss the story with their peers. Alongside this interactive play, the children accessed the creative craft area to design their own scenes of Moses floating safely down the river. This blended approach successfully encouraged both spiritual reflection and creative expression across the early years classes.

Nursery - Re - The Story of Moses

In R.E this week we have listened to the story of baby Moses. To help us gain a stronger understanding of the story, we created our very own paper plate craft activity were the children can see Baby Moses floating down the river in a little basket. The children then were able to use their craft as a prop and their thinking skills to retell the story of baby Moses to their friends.

In P.S.H.E this week, our children have been exploring the great outdoors to look at how the natural environment grows and changes throughout the seasons. To bring our "Growing and Changing" theme to life, the children created their very own nature bracelets. This simple, sensory activity involved wrapping a piece of masking tape around their wrists with the sticky side facing out, allowing them to collect interesting natural objects as they explored. The children were absolutely thrilled with the results, and it was a fantastic, creative way to connect with nature and appreciate the changing world around us.

Nursery And Pre-School - Maths - Using Positional Language

This week, our Nursery and Pre-School children focused on developing their understanding of positional language during their mathematics lesson. The session began at the maths table, where the children used coloured bears and small tubs to explore spatial concepts. Using visual picture references as a guide, the children practiced placing their bears in various positions around the tubs, such as inside, next to, or behind. They were then encouraged to name the position of their bear, either speaking independently or repeating their teacher. Following this structured practice, the children took their learning into the wider classroom environment. They independently tested their new knowledge within the continuous provision areas, applying the positional vocabulary to everyday, familiar toys. This hands-on session successfully boosted the children's confidence in both understanding and using mathematical language during play.

New Active Uniform!

We are thrilled to announce a fresh, modern update to our school uniform policy starting this coming September. After careful consideration and from feedback from the parental questionnaire, we are transitioning to a full active uniform. This change is designed to simplify your mornings, reduce overall costs, and—most importantly—ensure our pupils are ready for movement, play, and learning every single day. The active uniform replaces the traditional split between formal wear and PE kits. By moving to a single, versatile wardrobe, we aim to provide: ● Increased Physical Activity: pupils can jump straight into sports or active play without the need for changing breaks. ● Cost-Effectiveness: One set of clothes for the whole week means fewer items to purchase. ● Comfort and Focus: High-quality, flexible clothing helps students stay comfortable and focused on their studies. A Special Note for Year 6: To celebrate their final year, Year 6 pupils will not require the half-zip red top. Instead, they will be provided with their Leavers Hoodies to wear as their outer layer throughout the entire academic year! We also have some exciting news regarding our school identity! We are hoping to update the school badge this year, which means the branding on the new uniform items may change as we roll out the fresh design. Because of this—and to support our families—we are treating the 2026-2027 academic year as a transition year. If you have old uniform items that you still need to use, it is perfectly fine for your child to wear them during this first year. There is no pressure to buy the new badged items immediately if your current ones still fit. We want to ensure that no clothing goes to waste and that the move to the Active Uniform is as stress-free as possible for your budget. Our badged items (the half-zip sports tops and badged T-shirts, along with black track pants and shorts) are available on our official uniform website as usual. All other items, such as plain black bottoms and trainers, can be sourced from any retailer of your choice, provided they meet the no branding requirement. We truly believe this shift will foster a more energetic and inclusive environment for our children.

Nursery And Pre-School - Music -Loud And Quiet

This week, our Nursery and Pre-School children explored the concepts of "loud" and "quiet" during their music lesson. The session began in a circle, where the children were introduced to visual prompts representing different volumes. They practiced regulating their voices, matching their vocal output to the picture shown. Next, each child selected a musical instrument. Using the same visual cues, they experimented with how to physically play their instruments to create both loud and quiet sounds. To conclude the lesson, the children took turns demonstrating their new skills to the class. Each child proudly performed a solo, choosing their own volume level to showcase. It was a wonderful session that built both musical confidence and control.

Nursery And Pre-School - Science - Food Decomposition

Over the last week, the children in Nursery and Preschool have become little scientists, taking part in a two-part investigation into how things change and decay. We wanted to find out what would happen to an apple when left in different environments, so we set up a special experiment using four slices. One was placed in milk, one in water, one in sugar water, and the final piece was left out in the air. To start our investigation, the children were encouraged to make their own predictions. We had some wonderful ideas, with some children thinking the apples would change colour and turn brown, while others wondered if the seeds inside might start to grow! This was a great way for the children to practice their "thinking skills" and imagine what might happen over time. After waiting for a whole week, we gathered back together to see if our predictions were right. We used our senses to explore the changes, taking a good look, feeling the textures, and even having a little sniff of the different bowls! The children were fascinated to see how some apples had stayed firm while others had become mushy or changed colour. We spoke about what we could see and smell, and the children enjoyed sharing their surprises when the results were different from what they first expected. This hands-on experiment was a fantastic way for the children to observe the passage of time and the natural process of change in the world around them.

There has been plenty of leaping and stretching in the hall this week. Our latest gymnastics unit invites the children to explore the world of animals through physical movement. By creating unique shapes and mastering the art of the rock and roll, the pupils are gaining confidence in their spatial awareness and safety. It was wonderful to see them persevere through the more difficult balances—their effort was outstanding.

Nursery And Pre-School - PSHE - My Family

This week, the children in Nursery and Preschool have been exploring the theme of "Important People" by focusing on their own families. The lesson began with a lovely group discussion where the children talked about who lives in their houses. This was a wonderful way for the children to build their confidence in speaking and to celebrate their own unique identities and home lives. To represent their families, the children created special "family bracelets." They used individual pieces of pasta to represent each person in their family, carefully threading them together to create their designs. This activity allowed the children to think deeply about their loved ones while also providing a fantastic workout for their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Once finished, the children wore their bracelets with great pride. It was heartwarming to see them showing off their creations to their peers and teachers, happily explaining exactly who each piece of pasta represented. This session successfully fostered a sense of belonging and community, helping the children feel proud of their families and excited to share their stories with others.

Nursery/Pre-school- Continuous Provision-Independent Learning

The bank holiday weekend clearly did wonders! Our nursery is buzzing today as the children dived straight back into our continuous provision. Continuous provision is at the heart of what we do in the Early Years. It’s about more than justplay—it’s where the magic happens for developing independence, problem-solving, and those all-important turn-taking skills. By creating an environment where they can lead their own learning without needing an adult’s hand, we’re helping them build the confidence they need for the big step up to school.
