Year 3 - P.E - Dancing Like Machines
Our Year 3 dancers turned the school hall into a living, breathing factory floor this week! As part of our latest PE unit, the children have been exploring mechanical movement and the fascinating shapes associated with heavy machinery.
Year 3 - Art - Exploring Stitching
Our young artists are taking their volcano paintings to the next level by exploring the tactile world of textiles. Before we merge fabric with canvas, we spent today’s lesson mastering the foundational skill of stitching.
Year 3 - Science - Learning How Fossils Are Formed
Ever wondered how a dinosaur becomes a stone? In this Year 3 lesson, we became paleontologists to uncover the secrets of the earth! Pupils explored the incredible journey from a living creature to a prehistoric treasure. We’ll learned how layers of mud and millions of years of pressure create nature’s very own time capsules.
Year 3 - Art - Exploring Hot And Cold Colours
Our Year 3 artists turned into color experts this week as they explored the "mood" of the color wheel! We dove into the world of Hot and Cold colors to see how temperature changes a painting. From fiery reds and glowing oranges to icy blues and chilly purples, we discovered how artists use color to spark different emotions.
KS2 TTRS Battle of the Bands!
Here we go ???? We’ve kicked off a KS2 Times Tables Rock Stars Battle of the Bands today, with classes going head to head to see who can rack up the most points. The battle runs from today until 13th February. During that time, children can contribute to their class score for up to one hour a day on Times Tables Rock Stars. Every correct answer counts, so regular practice really will make a difference. This is all about building confidence, speed and accuracy with times tables, while having a bit of fun and healthy competition along the way. We’ll be cheering on effort as much as scores. Let the battle begin ????
Year 3 - P.E. - Dancing Like Machines
Year 3 had a fantastic PE this week, using "Get Set 4 PE" to turn our bodies into mechanical parts. We investigated how machines move in straight lines and jerky pulses to create a class performance. Ask your child to show you their "robotic isolation" move tonight—you’ll be impressed by their control!
Year 3 - Science - Investigating The Properties Of Rocks
Year 3 are rocking it! Today we turned our classroom into a lab to investigate the properties of rocks. We’ve been scratching, soaking, and sorting to find out which rocks are the toughest and which are the most absorbent.
Year 3 - Computing - Branching Databases
This week, our Year 3 tech experts turned into "Data Detectives" as we explored branching databases. We learned how computers use simple Yes/No questions to sort information and solve mysteries. To master this skill, the children used images of different fruits to create their own digital sorting trees. They had to think carefully about the physical features of each fruit to help someone else "discover" a secret item.
Year 3 - English - The Characters, Settings and Events In A Story
This week, Year 3 traveled thousands of years into the past! We dove into the story of Stone Age Boy to discover what life was like long ago. The children became history detectives as we explored: Characters: We looked closely at the boy and his friend, Om. We talked about how they were different and what they learned from each other. The Setting: Using clues from the pictures and text, we described the cold caves and the busy Stone Age camp. Key Events: We mapped out the most exciting parts of the story, from the moment the boy tripped into the cave to his amazing adventures learning to hunt and flint-knap.
Year 3 - P.E - Hockey Skills
Year 3 had a fantastic lesson, mastering the core fundamentals of hockey. The lesson focused on building a solid foundation through three key areas: The Perfect Grip: Students practiced the "shake hands" grip, ensuring the left hand stayed at the top of the stick with the flat side always facing the ball. Close Control: Through a series of dribbling drills, the children learned to keep the ball "glued" to their stick using short, controlled touches to navigate around obstacles. The Push Pass: We concluded with partner work, focusing on the push pass. Students worked on keeping the stick in contact with the ball and following through toward their target for maximum accuracy.
Year 3 - Art - Learning About The Work Of Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle
Year 3 spent a thoughtful afternoon acting as art critics as they delved into the textile masterpieces of Alice Kettle and Hannah Rae. The children spent time observing how both artists use fabric as a canvas, noting the contrast between broad sweeps of fabric paint and the delicate, rhythmic lines of stitching. Through group discussions, the pupils responded to the emotional impact of the work, sharing their thoughts on how the layered textures made the stories within the art feel more "alive" and three-dimensional.
Year 3 - History - Learning About Ancient Rome
This week, our Year 3 historians stepped back in time to walk the bustling streets of Ancient Rome. By investigating the city’s most iconic ruins, we uncovered the secrets of Roman life and engineering. From the towering stone tiers of the Colosseum, where we imagined the roar of the crowds, to the breathtaking dome of the Pantheon, pupils explored how these incredible structures shaped the daily lives of Roman citizens. It was a fascinating journey through the architecture that built an empire!
