Rev Kev visited Year 5 R.E. this week, bringing the story of Easter to life. He shared how the church commemorates Christ's triumph over death and God's Big Plan, guiding students through the seven Stations of the Cross and the powerful experience of the Easter Vigil. He described the anticipation of waiting for sunrise, mirroring the resurrection, and the lighting of the Paschal Candle from the vigil fire. He also explained the significance of the clergy's liturgical colors during the Easter season.
Year 5 Art - Using Watercolours to Create Backgrounds
Year 5's Art class this week focused on watercolour techniques, preparing backgrounds for their poetry monotype prints. Students crafted their own sketchbooks, which they then used to experiment with watercolour washes and textures, setting the stage for their upcoming printing project.
Year 5 Science - Discovering How Day and Night Occur
This week in Science, Year 5 modeled the Earth's rotation on its axis and the resulting day-night cycle using polystyrene spheres and torches. Students marked the Northern Hemisphere with a cross and then rotated the spheres anticlockwise, simulating the Earth's movement away from the 'sun.' Upon hearing 'freeze,' they identified whether their marked location was experiencing day or night.
Year 5 Geography: Writing About the Human Uses of the Desert
This week in Geography, Year 5 explored the diverse ways humans utilize desert environments, including mining, renewable energy, tourism, settlements, and farming. To deepen their understanding, they creatively wrote narratives from the perspective of a personified desert, sharing its experiences and observations of these human activities.
Year 5 World Book Day: Creating 'Lost Thing' Potatoes!
Year 5 engaged in a hands-on World Book Day activity, using potatoes as a medium to explore the themes and characters of Shaun Tan's 'The Lost Thing.' This project encouraged them to think critically about the book's imagery and symbolism, and allowed the children to demonstrate their understanding of the book's unique visual style

Reading with your child every day has a huge impact on their learning and development. It helps to build their vocabulary, improve their imagination, and develop a lifelong love of books. Family Easter Egg Competition
Dear Parents/Carers, Our annual Family Easter Egg Competition is almost here! This year’s theme is “All Things Easter”, so let your creativity shine! You could design your eggs based on: • Easter animals like chicks, bunnies, or lambs • Traditional Easter symbols such as crosses, baskets, or spring flowers • Fun Easter scenes like an egg hunt or a chocolate feast • Characters with an Easter twist—perhaps an “Egg Minion” or a “Bunny Superhero”! All entries should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and class and brought into school by Wednesday, 9th April. The winners will be announced during worship on Thursday, 10th April. Good luck—we’re egg-cited to see your fantastic creations!
Year 5 Holy Communion Service
Year 5 joined the Communion Service in Church this week. We wrote and spoke our own prayers, which Rev Kevin Colyer described as 'very deep and heartfelt' prayers. Well done Year 5! Tristan did a reading from Hebrews and spoke very well. We all enjoyed the service, and also enjoyed having our lunch at church!
Year 5 R.E. Victory in the Easter Story
Year 5 have been exploring the theme of victory in the Easter story. We picked out the scenes and events from the story which we felt showed that God has a victory, and drew our ideas on a storyboard template.
