Our Year 3 students had a wonderfully atmospheric art lesson this week as they explored the dramatic effects of light and dark by drawing with charcoal by torchlight!
The children were challenged to focus on how the sharp light of the torches created deep, contrasting shadows. They used the charcoal to capture the difference between the intensely lit areas and the surrounding darkness.
This activity significantly developed their observational drawing skills and taught them a lot about chiaroscuro (the use of strong contrasts between light and dark). The resulting artwork was incredibly moody and impressive, beautifully showcasing their understanding of tone and shading. Well done, Year 3!
