As the thrilling finale to our persuasive writing unit, Year 5 had the incredible opportunity to present their advertising scripts to a top industry expert: Nick Brigden, Brand Director at Merlin Entertainments!
Nick had kindly provided us with real-life advertising scripts from Merlin attractions like Thorpe Park and Alton Towers. Using these professional examples, Year 5 researched and wrote their own scripts, brilliantly promoting Darwen as a must-see visitor destination!
Nick was highly impressed with the quality of the writing and our sophisticated use of persuasive techniques. He specifically praised our use of alliteration, citing one child's description of Darwen Tower as a 'luminous landmark'—a phrase he joked he would pass on to his own copywriters!
He congratulated Year 5 on their skills, saying he saw "some real budding copywriters" amongst our clever class! This was a fantastic way to celebrate their learning and receive feedback from a true professional.
