Year 5 DT - Meet the Doodlers!
In this week's lesson, Year 5 became design detectives as we met some amazing doodling machines! We explored how these fantastic devices are built and studied the different mechanisms (the moving parts) they use to create their unique, colourful patterns. We analysed how the clever arrangement of motors, levers, and linkages makes each doodler special, preparing Year 5 to design their own creative, moving invention!
Year 3 - Design Technology - Evaluating Seasonal Foods
This week, Year 3 explored the wonderful world of seasonal food! We acted like food critics and evaluated three fresh ingredients: asparagus, radish, and spring onion. We tasted each food and discussed its texture, smell, and flavour. We then decided which ingredient worked best for a seasonal tart. The children used fantastic descriptive words to explain their choices.
Year 1 - DT - Juicing
Year 1 pupils were busy juicing oranges, lemons, and limes! They worked on important physical development skills, including gross motor skills for squeezing and holding the juicers steady, and fine motor skills for twisting the fruit and manipulating the seeds. They also used their hand-eye coordination and following instructions to complete the tasty task!
Year 1 - Preparing Food Safely
This week we have discussed all things kitchen safety! We discussed how to prepare food safely, how to use equipment safely and why we do this. The children had fun taking turns to cut a variety of food items including bananas, peppers and apples.
Year 2 DT Making Wraps
Our children had a fantastic Design and Technology session where they focused on Making Wraps! They learned about assembling different ingredients, practicing their food preparation skills, and creating their own delicious and healthy wraps.
Year 3 DT - Making A Structure
This week in DT, Year 3 began constructing their own castles! They collected a variety of materials like boxes, egg boxes, and cardboard tubes to build essential castle features such as turrets, towers, and battlements.
Year 2 - DT - Food
Year 2 had the chance to select balanced combinations of ingredients and taste a variety of foods.
Year 1 - D.T. - Creating A Moving Book
Get ready for an egg-cellent adventure! Our Year 1 class has been busy creating and constructing a moving book that tells the classic tale of Humpty Dumpty. Watch as Humpty tumbles and bounces with our amazing moving mechanisms! It's been a cracking good time bringing this story to life.
Year 3 DT - Structures. Designing Our Own Castle.
Year 3 have continued their art lesson on castles by designing their own. They've been busy discussing the essential features a castle must have and exploring the different materials they would use to build them.
Year 3 D.T. - To Recognise How Multiple Shapes Are Combined To Form A Strong And Stable Structure.
Year 3 DT students have been exploring the fascinating world of castles! Their recent lesson covered a range of topics, including: Purpose of Castles: Discussions revolved around why castles were built, understanding their defensive and strategic roles. Inhabitants of Castles: Students learned about the people who lived within castle walls, from lords and ladies to soldiers and servants. Castle Locations: The class explored where castles can be found today, both locally and further afield, understanding their historical significance. Castles in Stories: They delved into various stories and fairy tales that feature castles, connecting their learning to literature and imagination. To consolidate their understanding, the students then put their knowledge into practice by drawing their own castles. They successfully identified and labelled key features such as: Towers: Tall structures for defense and observation. Turrets: Small, ornamental towers often found at corners or along walls. Battlements: The protective, notched parapets along the top of castle walls. Gatehouse: The fortified entrance to the castle. Drawbridge: A movable bridge that could be raised or lowered to control access. Curtain Walls: The main defensive walls enclosing the castle courtyard.
Year 5 DT - Sharing our Pop Up books with Year 1
In Design and Technology, Year 5 students have been busy creating captivating pop-up books specifically for our Year 1 children. Earlier this week, their hard work culminated in the completion of these books, which are ingeniously designed with various levers, mechanisms, and delightful moving parts. The highlight was undoubtedly sharing these creations with Year 1, who were thrilled to explore the interactive elements and enjoy having the stories read to them.
Year 1 - Story Time - Year 5 Sharing Their Books
What a fantastic learning experience! Our Year 5 students recently shared their incredible D.T. moving mechanism books with an eager audience of Year 1 pupils. It was wonderful to see the older children proudly demonstrate their designs and explain how their mechanisms worked, while the younger children were captivated and full of brilliant questions. A truly inspiring example of collaboration and creativity across the year groups!
