Linked with our spring story 'Grow it!', the children have been exploring the garden centre on purplemash. Understanding a tap and drag movement to place different items into the garden. The children discovered many different plants, mini beasts and equipment that we have been learning about this week and were given the opportunity to put their new vocabulary knowledge into practice. The children observed the effects that the watering can had on the bulbs and seeds, watching the flowers grow once they had been watered, this was definitely the favorite feature!

Nursery - Fine Motor Skills - Buttons

This weeks fine motor activity has been using buttons! Buttons can be tricky for little fingers to try and navigate however this is a very important skill that the children have been learning. This prepares the children for dressing themselves, which builds independence. We have also been building on the children's hand eye coordination and problem-solving skills as they figure out how to manipulate the buttons. This activity has also been great for strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers, preparing for writing, drawing, and other everyday tasks.

Reception - Maths - Number bonds

To support their understanding of number bonds to 10, the children today participated in a Numicon-based activity in small groups. This session encouraged collaboration, with some children taking on the active role of "Numicon detectives" to physically explore and identify the number combinations that total ten. To consolidate their learning, one child from each group was responsible for writing down the different number bonds they found. This multi-faceted approach allowed for both hands-on exploration and the development of recording skills.

Pre-School- Pre Writing - Fine Motor Skills

In Preschool, the children have been developing their fine motor skills by creating their own versions of Jasper’s Beanstalk. They carefully selected cereal hoops and placed them over a wooden stick, stacking them to build taller beanstalks. This activity encouraged precision, concentration, and coordination. Fine motor skills involve the small muscles of the hands, fingers, and wrists, enabling movements such as grasping small objects, manipulating tools, writing, and buttoning clothes. Additionally, this activity supported hand-eye coordination, helping children refine their control and dexterity in a fun and engaging way.

Pre-School -P.E- Roll And Control

In P.E., Preschool children have been developing their ball skills, focusing on controlling the ball when rolling and catching. They practiced receiving the ball with their hands and learning to absorb its force to prevent it from bouncing away. These activities help develop key skills such as hand-eye coordination, timing, and proper hand positioning. When throwing, children worked on propelling the ball through the air with accuracy and control. In the early years, the focus is on building these fundamental skills—rolling, throwing, and catching—which form the foundation for more advanced physical development.

Nursery - Music - Identifying Different Instrument Sounds

During our Listening and attention lesson the children have been identifying different sounds. First we learnt the names of the instruments and how to play them, listening to the sounds that each instrument made. The children then used their brilliant listening skills to identify a hidden instrument just by the sound it made! In our busy classroom this was a little bit tricky but the children did a great job and were able to distinguish between the environmental sounds and the target instrument sound. They then mimicked the sound they heard on the corresponding instrument on their side of the barrier. Well done Nursery class!

Reception - History - Past and Present Transport

This week, the children have been engaged in exploring different types of transport from the past and present. They observed and discussed various photos, identifying key features and comparing how transport has changed over time. During the discussions, the children showed curiosity and enthusiasm. Some noticed that the older transport images looked “smoky” and suggested that the vehicles might have rust. They eagerly shared their thoughts on how transport has evolved, making connections to their own experiences. Many children excitedly talked about different types of transportation they had used, such as cars, buses, trains, and airplanes. As they examined the photos, they compared similarities and differences, such as the shapes, materials, and designs of past and present vehicles. This led to meaningful conversations about why transport has changed and how it affects our daily lives. To extend their learning, the children explored models of transport, carefully observing details and expressing their ideas through drawings and writing. They shared their thoughts and feelings about different types of transport, demonstrating an increasing awareness of history and technological progress. Overall, the activity sparked rich discussions and deepened the children’s understanding of transport over time, encouraging them to think critically and make personal connections to the topic.

Reception - Colour Mixing

Today, the children continued their exploration of colour mixing, incorporating a bit of science into their learning. They used spray bottles filled with water to spray onto tissue paper, observing how the water caused the colours to run and blend. As the colours transferred onto the plain paper underneath, the children were fascinated by the patterns and mixes that appeared. Throughout the activity, the children engaged in discussions about the different colours they could see and how they changed when mixed together. They expressed excitement and curiosity as they observed the effects of the water on the tissue paper. Many children took pride in their artwork, eagerly sharing their creations with others. This hands-on experience encouraged creativity, scientific thinking, and exploration of colour mixing in an engaging and interactive way.

Nursery - Maths - Literacy - Pattern Matching And Tracing

This week, Nursery class have been looking at different patterns. The children were given a pattern that they had to match with the ones shown on the board. They were then tasked with describing what they could see, zig zag, bubbles, rainbow, dots, cross etc. They were then challenged to trace their patterns on the board with their fingers, we have continued this learning in provision as the children have been exploring drawing their patterns at the craft table and on the ground in our outdoor area with chalk. Well done everybody.
