Reception - RE - Diwali

To finish our unit on Christmas, we learnt about another festival that celebrates light in our world, Diwali. The children learnt about different sources of light and talked about how light does overcome darkness. We then had fun with candles, glow sticks and torches and sang a simple Diwali song.

Nursery - Maths - Categorising Objects By Colour

In Nursery class we have been working on colour recognition, the children have been exploring the malleable table throughout the week to find objects of different colors and sort them into the correct category. The children have really progressed throughout the week and have become more confident when naming, finding and sorting different coloured objects. Well done, Nursery class!

Reception - Class Worship - Jesus Feeds the 5000

This morning the children learned about the story of Jesus feeding the 5000. We discussed how we would have felt if Jesus shared out our lunch to thousands of people, and we considered the things Jesus might say to us. Jack shared out some breadsticks with the class as we thought about this story.

Reception class have been working extremely hard during phonics and guided reading. Today the children learned a new digraph, ai as in snail. Every phonics session the children are given the opportunity to read and write words and phrases containing the phonemes they already know.

Reception - Maths - 1 Less

Reception Class have been developing their knowledge of finding 1 less. Today they had to find 1 less than a given number between 1 and 5, using dot plates to support them. They have also been singing lots of number songs, such as 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer and 5 Currant Buns.

Nursery - Art And Design - Creating Eric Carle Inspired Animals

In Nursery class this week our story of interest has been 'Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?'. The children enjoyed exploring the different colors and animals featured in the story during our craft activity. They were tasked with using our story props to support their understanding of colour. All of the children were encouraged to vocalise the colour names, some children were able to identify the colors they could see and correctly find the colored tissue paper they would need for their chosen animal. They then created animal art work in the style of the author Eric Carle. The children produced some brilliant pieces of work, well done everyone!

Pre-School-UTW-Science- Exploring Seasons

The children had so much fun exploring the snow. Experiencing what Winter is all about, snow, icicles and snowflakes. We went on a hunt to find all these objects and why we know it is Winter. The children talked about wearing warm clothes, hats, scarves and gloves to play out in and shorts are for summer time. We noticed that there are no leaves on the trees and that not many animals were around because they are hibernating this season.

Pre-School- PSHE-Keeping Us Safe

In our lesson today we discussed people who keep us safe and how they can help us. We looked at a few pictures of people in different roles, including parents, police officers, fire fighters, doctor/ nurses and teachers. We talked about how they can help us and keep us safe. We role played different roles, being a police officer helping someone if they got lost, a doctor and using the plasters and bandages to make you better. The children then used this knowledge to draw a person and list what they can do to help us.

Reception - Science - Exploring the Snow

Reception Class had a great time exploring the snow and ice. We added paint to the snow and made marks, we moved some of the equipment to see different shapes, we poured water over the snow and the ice and we used different methods to try and break the ice. We then had to throw snowballs at different numbers/graphemes and tricky words that were written in chalk.

EYFS- PSHE-Christmas Magic Show

We had a magical day for all the children in EYFS experiencing a Christmas Magic Show. We watched magic tricks, a puppet show and the children enjoyed joining in with all the different acts. We danced to music and then a special visitor arrived.....' SANTA'.

Pre-School- PSHE-Taking Turns and Sharing

We have been developing our taking turns and sharing skills this week. We have played a pairs game and needed to match the animals. The children had to wait their turn and watch what was happening when the other player took their turn. Children struggled at first to wait their turn and how to play the game but with some guidance we had lots of fun.

Pre-School-PD-Christmas Dough

The children have enjoyed taking part in our Christmas dough disco. Moving arms up in the air and low to the ground and all around. We splat, pinched and moulded our dough to make reindeers, snowmen and Christmas puddings. The children have developed their skills over the term and are building their muscles in their arms and fingers.
