Year 1 RE Retelling the Nativity Story

The children in Y1 worked together to retell the Nativity story, using picture prompts to help them remember each part. They took turns speaking to the class, explaining what was happening and listening carefully to one another. We’ve been thinking about what Christmas means to Christians, and this activity gave the children time to slow down and reflect on the story behind it. There were some thoughtful comments, growing confidence and lots of pride in sharing their ideas. Moments like this are a reminder of how powerful storytelling can be, especially when children feel safe and supported to have a go. A lovely, calm way to bring the Nativity to life in Year 1

Year 5 RE - Sorting Details from the Nativity Story into the Correct Gospel

This week, Year 5 started a fascinating RE unit on the Nativity. Our goal is to become Bible detectives, meticulously studying the Gospels of Luke and Matthew to pinpoint the origins of the story's famous scenes. Students were amazed by the fact that certain traditional details, such as the donkey and the stable, are absent from the biblical text! We reinforced this learning with a fun, hands-on activity, sorting pictures of the Nativity story according to whether the scene is described by Matthew or by Luke.

Nursery - R.E - Diwali Celebrations

Today, the children were introduced to a new cultural and religious celebration: Diwali, the Festival of Lights. We began by exploring the concept of celebrating good over bad and the spreading of light in the world. To enhance their understanding of this vibrant celebration, we looked at several inspirational images. The children then engaged in two wonderful, hands-on activities: in the water tray, they explored colour and pattern, mirroring the beautiful Rangoli designs by carefully using pipettes and watered-down paint to create circles of colour. Simultaneously, they accessed the craft area to make festive Diwali lights, using a variation of glittery shapes in many bright colours to decorate their creations. This provided a rich, sensory, and visual introduction to a new religious and cultural tradition.
