Year 6 Science - Changing the Size of a Shadow
This week in Science Year 6 have been investigating how to change the size of a shadow. After thinking about working scientifically and how to conduct a fair test, we performed an investigation to test against our predictions.
Pre-School - Expressive Arts And Design- Creating Bug Houses
The children are creating bug houses for the bugs to keep warm over winter, selecting from different materials to create their own bug house.
Year 4 - Smoothie Bike
Year 4 took part in a smoothie making workshop. They had to choose different fruits which they thought would taste nice together before adding yoghurt and honey and pedaling the bike to mix it all together.
Nursery - Art And Design - Creating Hedgehogs Using Foraged Leaves
While enjoying time in our outdoor provision the children worked together to collect some different leaves to use in our craft activity. They used their foraged leaves to create some spikey hedgehogs! The children found it tricky to work on a cylindrical surface however they persevered and made some fabulous leaf hedgehogs!
Year 3 Science - Recognising The Bones In Our Bodies
In today's Science lesson Year 3 have been learning how to recognise the main bones in their body. They also collected data by measuring each bone and ordering them from shortest to longest.
Year 5 Tree Planting - Creating a Micro Forest!
Year 5 were very lucky this week to be invited by Lancashire Council to help create a micro forest on Winterton Road. We were all very excited to plant some trees and help to save the planet! It was very muddy, but great fun and we all learned some valuable skills about how to plant trees!
Year 2 Science - Investigating How Germs Are Spread
Year 2 took a look at what we do to keep our bodies clean and how germs are spread. We created our own hand washing posters to show our understanding.
Year 3 PSHE - Planning A Healthy Meal
In PSHE, Year 3 received an email from Derek the Penguin. He wanted their advice about making healthy food for his friend's birthday party. In groups the children talked about the different food groups and then designed their own healthy menus.
Reception - Science - Exploring Autumn
This afternoon, Reception Class went on an adventure around the school grounds to observe signs of Autumn. Before we set off we discussed the kind of things we expect to see in Autumn. The children said leaves, worms, spiders and webs. We found leaves, twigs, sticks, acorns and lots of other Autumnal objects. We also saw a digger carrying out some work and our gardener’s blowing the leaves. The children also said hello to their friends and family over at nursery, which was lovely. It was a fantastic afternoon in the fresh air and the children were able to talk about the things we had observed.
Year 5 Science: Sorting Materials into Hard or Soft
Year 5 were given a variety of objects made from different materials, and sorted them according to how hard or soft these objects were. They then tested their ideas using a nail to scratch the objects, and made a second judgement based on how easy it was to scratch the object. Lastly, we tested the trustworthiness of our investigation by comparing our results. We were surprised that our results were so different, and concluded that the method of observation was not as reliable as we had first thought!
Nursery - Maths - Categorising Objects
This week, Nursery class have been reading 'kitchen disco', two of the first fruits we have explored are lemons and oranges. We discussed the size difference, encouraging the verbal use of 'big' and 'small'. The children vocalised the shape of the sliced fruit segments being 'circle' and also used their senses to smell each piece to help differentiate between the lemons and the oranges. We then separated the fruit into piles of oranges and piles of limes, the children used their own methods to do this from their knowledge gained during the adult led part of this activity. Well done Nursery class!
Year 6 Science - Light
In science we have been looking at describing how light travels. We conducted two experiments to prove that light only travels in straight lines.
