Pre-School-UTW-Investigating Frozen Penguins
This week we have been exploring all about penguins, we have learnt that penguins live in the south pole where it is cold and there is lots of ice around. We have then explored ice but our penguins were stuck inside and we discussed how we can get them out. We used our hands to warm up the ice and watched it melt to free the penguins.
Nursery - Literacy - Fine Motor Skills - Decorating The Christmas Tree
In Nursery class this week, we have been getting into the Christmas spirit! We got our Christmas tree out and an array of decorations for the children to hang on the tree. The children were encouraged to use a pincer grip to open the string on the baubles, perfect early practice for pencil grip! We also spoke about the colours that the children could see. Found big and small baubles. Discussed the shapes we could see. And spoke about the textures of the different decorations, shiny, sparkly, smooth, rough, fluffy... The children have loved rearranging the baubles throughout the week and admiring the different decorations.
Year 5 Science Recap and Recall Activity
Year 5 began our Science lesson with a roleplay to demonstrate changes to material properties. We are showing that if we are a gas and we are cooled, we become a liquid. If we are a solid and we are heated - we become a liquid! And if we are a liquid and we are cooled we become a solid, or if we are heated, we become a gas!
Reception - Exploring Our World - A Leaf Scavenger Hunt
As a part of our "Exploring The World" Unit and this week's Literacy theme on the book "The Leaf Man," Reception class went on a leaf scavenger hunt. The children worked in pairs and had clip-boards with different leaf images to tick. They were brilliant at describing the colours and shapes of their leaves.
Pre-School- UTW-Electricity
In Pre-School the children have been learning about Electricity. We explored where electricity comes from and how it works, what happens when it goes off and how we get it to come back on again. We found that items like torches and clocks run off batteries and the interactive board and light table need an electric source from the switches. We discussed safety and how we do not touch electric products unless we have been told it is safe to use.
Lunch time
At Lunchtime today, the children didn't let the cold bother them! We all had lots of fun, there were snowmen of all different shapes and sizes! Children made snow angels and had a really enjoyable time running around in the snow. Then we all had to get a snowball and try and hit Mrs Meagher with it.
Year 1 - Science - How Do Daylight Hours Change With The Seasons?
Year 1 learned about how daylight hours change during the seasons. We learned that there are less daylight hours in Winter, and more daylight hours in Summer.
Reception - Exploring Our World - A Snowy Day!
The children have been enjoying the snow in the yard. They have been making patterns in the snow and have been discovering different ways to pick it up without getting too cold!
Nursery - Fun in The Snow
On Tuesday the children were very excited that we had woken up to a snow covered community! We all got our wellies and wet suits on, wrapped up with hats scarves and gloves and went out to explore in our garden. The children enjoyed noticing the differences in the garden, the slippery ground, the icy leaves and the cold snow among many other changes. We made footprints in the snow, made snowballs and went sledding. Happy snow day!
Pre-School- Physical Development - Fun in the Snow
Today in Pre-school the children have enjoyed fun in the snow. We made a mini snowman, we threw snowballs, laid in the snow to make snow angels using our arms moving them up and down and moving our legs in and out. We had lots of fun playing with our friends.
Pre-School-P.S.H.E- What Do Our Bodies Need?-Making Fruit Kebabs
Today Pre-school In P.S.H.E discussed what our bodies need to be healthy. The children told me that we need to eat lots of fruit and vegetables and drink only milk and water to keep our bodies healthy because pop and sweets have too much sugar in them. The children told me they need to exercise like running, jumping and doing our P.E lessons with Mrs Corbally.
Year 3 Science - How Our Muscles Work
In Science Year 3 have been learning about the different muscles in our bodies. They looked at whether the heart, stomach, small intestines and biceps moved voluntarily or involuntarily. They made a model of an arm to show how the muscles contract and relax.
