Wow, what an incredible day we had at our beach-themed reading café! A massive thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a fantastic success. It was truly wonderful to see so much fun, laughter, and, most importantly, a clear passion for books filling the room!
Year 1 - Phonics - Phase 5
This week in Year 1 phonics, we've been busy bees, diving into the exciting world of Phase 5! We've been exploring new graphemes and alternative pronunciations for sounds we already know, helping us to become even more super readers and writers. Our brains have been working hard to decode tricky words and stretch out sounds, and we're so proud of the progress everyone is making!
Year 1 - P.E. - Team Games
This week, Year 1 had a brilliant time during our PE lesson, developing our teamwork and sportsmanship through exciting team games! We particularly loved playing "Scarecrow Tig," where we had to work together to unfreeze our friends. It was so much fun to see everyone running, laughing, and strategizing as a team. We're already looking forward to our next active adventure!
Year 1 - D.T. - Creating A Moving Book
Get ready for an egg-cellent adventure! Our Year 1 class has been busy creating and constructing a moving book that tells the classic tale of Humpty Dumpty. Watch as Humpty tumbles and bounces with our amazing moving mechanisms! It's been a cracking good time bringing this story to life.

In Year 1, we're building essential life skills! Our recent lesson focused on recognizing paper money and notes, helping us understand the value of different denominations. We had a great time learning to identify different coins and notes – a super important step in becoming money smart! Take a look at our progress.
Year 1 - History - Christopher Columbus
Year 1 got ready to set sail on an amazing adventure as we journeyed back in time to learn all about Christopher Columbus! Did you know he was a super brave sailor who wanted to find a quicker way to reach a faraway place called "The Indies" to get yummy spices and silks? We joined him as he discovered why he ended up finding something even more incredible – the amazing lands of North and South America! We learned about how King Ferdinand of Spain gave him money for his adventure and some details about his journey.
Year 1 - Computing - Animated Story Books
In Year 1, we've been on an amazing adventure, bringing our favourite stories to life! We learned all about animated storybooks and added super cool sounds to them. Get ready to hear our characters giggle, monsters roar, and the wind whisper through the trees! It's been so much fun making our stories sing!

Year 1 - Maths - Recognising Money and Unitising
Our Year 1 mathematicians had a fantastic time exploring the world of coins this week! We sharpened our super-seeing skills by subitising – instantly recognizing the number of coins without counting. It was a brilliant way to build our number sense and get hands-on with money!

This half term the Year 1 P.E. lessons focus on developing essential striking skills in a fun and engaging way. Children will learn the basics of hitting a ball with control and accuracy, building a strong foundation for future sports. Lots of active games and teamwork guaranteed!
