Year 1 - DT - Juicing
Year 1 pupils were busy juicing oranges, lemons, and limes! They worked on important physical development skills, including gross motor skills for squeezing and holding the juicers steady, and fine motor skills for twisting the fruit and manipulating the seeds. They also used their hand-eye coordination and following instructions to complete the tasty task!
Year 1 - Independent Challenges
Year 1 were busy this week developing core skills across different activities. They focused on literacy by creating silly sentences, strengthened their fine motor skills and measurement by building towers with cubes, practiced numeracy by writing number lines, and boosted their geographical awareness by collaborating to build an aerial map of the school. They learned through focused play and exploration!

We have had a fantastic week so far completing independent challenges! These vary from completing a 'colour and write' phonics challenge, to building a school using lego!
Year 1 - Preparing Food Safely
This week we have discussed all things kitchen safety! We discussed how to prepare food safely, how to use equipment safely and why we do this. The children had fun taking turns to cut a variety of food items including bananas, peppers and apples.
Year 1 - PSHE - Our Feelings
The children loved reading and listening to Harold's story. We read the story and discussed Harold's feelings during different parts of the story, followed by showing these feelings to each other!
Year 1 Science - Senses
In Science this week, the children used their sense of smell and sight to describe the food item. They smelt and saw bananas, toothpaste, paprika, hot chocolate powder and lemon juice! The children thoroughly enjoyed putting these senses to the test!

In science we have been learning about the 5 senses. We looked at and tasted foods to use 'smell' and 'sight' senses. The children tasted lemon juice, chocolate, popcorn and dark chocolate and used the terms 'sour, sweet, salty and bitter' to describe them.

Year 1 have been busy using this phonics knowledge to match letters to images to create the correct words and practicing number formation in provision!
Year 1 - Construction - Places in Darwen
The children used building blocks to create a variety of structures and places in Darwen,. The collage shows different creations, including the Darwen Tower and local houses.

We have had an amazing time doing lots of independent learning this week! Children have been using their phonetic knowledge to match words to pictures, have made letters using lego and have been working on letter formation.

Dear Parents, We are delighted to announce our fantastic lineup of after-school clubs for the Autumn term! We've listened to your feedback, and we're so pleased to be able to offer a range of clubs that we believe will be both fun and rewarding for your children. After-school clubs are a wonderful way for students to explore new interests, learn a new skill, and make new friends. This term, we have a variety of options to choose from, including: Debating Club: A great opportunity for confident speakers and those who want to build their confidence to express themselves. Yoga Club: Perfect for all ages, this club focuses on helping children find calmness and balance while building strength and flexibility. Football Club: An exciting chance for students to improve their skills and play in a supportive team environment. Dance Club: A fun way to get creative and learn new routines and styles. Cross Stitch Club: A chance to learn a new, creative skill and design a cross-stitched bookmark. Junk Modelling: An imaginative club where children can turn everyday "junk" into something new and exciting. History Club: For those who love to research and learn about significant figures from around the past. Clubs will begin the week of September 15th and run until the week of November 24th. The cost for most clubs is £4.00 per week, which is £40.00 for the full 10-week term, with some clubs being free.
