Our Reception class has been getting stuck into some brilliant early number work this week. We’ve been exploring one more within 5, following the White Rose Maths approach. The children worked together in a circle, taking turns to spot numbers on the carpet and find what comes next. Lots of talking, checking, and little moments of “I know it!” along the way.

 

It’s been lovely to see their confidence grow as they begin to recognise small numbers instantly and understand how numbers build. Simple, hands-on activities like this make the idea of “one more” really click for them.
