Pre-School-Maths-Comparing and sorting.
Today we had a bear-y special time playing with hoops and bears. It was so much fun to learn about "more," "fewer," and "the same"!First, we put our colourful hoops on the floor. Each bear was a different colour – red, blue, yellow, and green! We put some bears in one hoop and some bears in another. Then, we looked to see which hoop had more bears. That means a lot of bears! Which hoop had fewer bears? That means just a little bit. And sometimes, two hoops had the same number of bears! That means they were equal, just alike!
Year 4 Communion
On Tuesday, Year 4 spent part of the morning at Church, receiving Communion. The children worked hard to think of their own prayers, which were then read out to the congregation by them, including two readers who read a passage from the Bible. Rev Kev and the other adults were extremely impressed with Year 4's efforts, well done for a lovely service and time had by all.
Year 4 English - Creating Dialogue
In English, Year 4 have been innovating the story of The Pied Piper and needed to change the characters in the tale, to make it our own version. We have been looking at dialogue and how the original characters spoke and acted with one another, to then transfer that to our own ideas and character creations. What better way to do it, than act it out?! We really enjoyed 'becoming' our characters and acting like they would, so we then could create dialogue for them.
Year 4 P.E. - Gymnastics
This half term, the focus of Year 4's P.E. lessons is gymnastics. We are learning how our muscles need to be stretched to prevent injuries before we use them in physical activities and practised moving via a variety of rolls. Year 4 are getting pretty good at this!
Year 1 - PE - Dribbling Skills
Developing great control in PE! Year 1 focused on dribbling the ball with different parts of the foot and changing direction around the cones.
Year 1 - Maths - Sorting 3D Shapes
Year 1 mathematicians worked collaboratively to sort 3D shapes! We explored the properties of cones, cubes, and spheres, deciding if they roll or stack, and why.
Online Safety - Tracking Devices
Tracking devices were designed to help people find lost belongings, but they’ve also opened the door to worrying forms of misuse. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday explores how Bluetooth trackers like AirTags and SmartTags can be misused for stalking, bullying and invading young people’s privacy. Nursery - P.E - Fruit Bowl Bowling
The children thoroughly enjoyed playing a themed game of bowling in our PE lesson today! We put a fun twist on the activity by using bowling pins that pictured various fruit from our story, Kitchen Disco. The main focus of the lesson was developing rolling skills and refining their aim to knock down their favorite pieces of fruit. The children loved the visual satisfaction of seeing the pins fall one by one. Crucially, they demonstrated fantastic perseverance with the challenge, especially when only a couple of pins were left standing. They skillfully practiced adjusting their aim and ball speed to eventually knock down the final pins, successfully linking their physical skills with problem-solving.
Nursery - Computing - Assigning Colours
In this computing lesson, the children continued to build their digital literacy skills using the 'Paint Projects' function on Purple Mash to create colorful fruit bowls, directly linking to our story, Kitchen Disco. The children were tasked with carefully assigning colours to the different fruits in their bowls. To do this, they relied on visual references—drawing on their prior knowledge from story time, snack time, and home life—to ensure they selected the correct colours for fruits like bananas, apples, pears and oranges. The activity strongly encouraged the children to select the correct colours for their chosen fruits, which enforced greater control and legibility in their digital mark-making. By focusing on specific colour selection rather than free choice, the children practiced intentionality and precision within the digital environment.
Pre-School-Geography- Making Bug Houses
This week, pre-schoolers embraced nature by creating wonderful bug houses! To ensure all the tiny creatures stay warm this winter, the children diligently collected various natural materials for their constructions. This activity sparked great conversations, as the children eagerly discussed with their peers which creepy crawlies might choose to take up residence in their newly built homes.
Year 5 DT - Meet the Doodlers!
In this week's lesson, Year 5 became design detectives as we met some amazing doodling machines! We explored how these fantastic devices are built and studied the different mechanisms (the moving parts) they use to create their unique, colourful patterns. We analysed how the clever arrangement of motors, levers, and linkages makes each doodler special, preparing Year 5 to design their own creative, moving invention!
Year 3 - Science - The Musculoskeletal System
Year 3 learned all about the incredible musculoskeletal system—the body's scaffolding and engine. We investigated how our muscles and bones work together like a team to help us run, jump, and even just hold a pencil. We identified the main purpose of our skeleton—to support and protect our organs. We looked at different bones like the femur and the skull. We explored how muscles work in pairs to create movement. We tried out actions, like bending our arms, and saw how one muscle contracted (shortened) while the other relaxed (lengthened). This was called antagonistic movement! We participated in a fun activity where we created a simple model of our hand. It was a super interesting lesson, and we all came away knowing so much more about the power and complexity of our own bodies!
