Year 5 Maths - Using Place Value Counters to Help with Multiplication
This week, Year 5 began mastering the complex process of long multiplication. To build a strong foundation, we first revisited short multiplication (4 digits by 1 digit), using place value counters and repeated addition to visualize the concept. Once this was secured, the children successfully transitioned to the formal written method. Feeling confident, they progressed to multiplying 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers—initially using the grid method to see the products before moving on to the more abstract formal column method.
Year 3 - Art - Learning About The Work Of Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle
Year 3 spent a thoughtful afternoon acting as art critics as they delved into the textile masterpieces of Alice Kettle and Hannah Rae. The children spent time observing how both artists use fabric as a canvas, noting the contrast between broad sweeps of fabric paint and the delicate, rhythmic lines of stitching. Through group discussions, the pupils responded to the emotional impact of the work, sharing their thoughts on how the layered textures made the stories within the art feel more "alive" and three-dimensional.
Year 3 - History - Learning About Ancient Rome
This week, our Year 3 historians stepped back in time to walk the bustling streets of Ancient Rome. By investigating the city’s most iconic ruins, we uncovered the secrets of Roman life and engineering. From the towering stone tiers of the Colosseum, where we imagined the roar of the crowds, to the breathtaking dome of the Pantheon, pupils explored how these incredible structures shaped the daily lives of Roman citizens. It was a fascinating journey through the architecture that built an empire!
Year 4 Maths Fluency - Creating Challenges
This week in our Maths Fluency sessions, Year 4 have been putting their times table knowledge to the test, by completing and creating multiplication problems for others with dice. It was an exciting race between partners, to see who could complete their grid the quickest and also lots of fun!
Year 4 English - Writing with Adverbs
This week in our English lessons, Year 4 have been diligently putting their knowledge of adverbs to the test by adapting other texts. We have even managed to create some of our own sentences with appropriate adverbs!
Spring Clubs are back and they’re brilliant!
Our Spring 2026 after-school clubs are ready to go and they are packed with fun, creativity, and energy. This term children can get stuck into Kurling, Dodgeball, Lego Challenge, Art Club, Computing, Book Club, and our brand new Geography Explorers Club. Whether they love building, coding, creating, reading, discovering the world, or burning off energy, there’s something to get excited about. Clubs run from 3.20pm–4.00pm, with collection from the front entrance. Most clubs cost £4.00 for the full 10-week block, not per week, and some clubs are free. Spaces are limited, so don’t wait too long. Clubs start WC 12/1/26, with the final week WC 23/3/26. All bookings are through ParentPay. After-school fun starts here – let’s make it a great term!
Year 1 - Geography - Where is the UK?
Wait... we live on an island?! There’s nothing quite like the look on a Year 1 pupil's face when they realise that if they keep driving in one direction for long enough, they’ll eventually hit the sea! This week, we’ve been using our Kapow Primary geography units to answer a big question: Where is the UK? It’s been so much fun watching the children huddle around maps and globes. We’ve been: Hunting for the four countries (and debating which one has the coolest flag—Wales usually wins! ). Learning the names of our capital cities. Discovering that we are surrounded by water on all sides. The best part of the lesson? Watching them try to find their own town on the map. Even though we look tiny on a big world map, it really helps them see how we’re connected to the rest of the planet. Geography in KS1 is all about that "lightbulb moment" where the world suddenly feels a little bit smaller and a lot more interesting.
Reception - Phonics - Tricky Words
This week, our Reception children have been diving into their "tricky words" using a multi-sensory Say It, Build It, Write It approach. This method helps children master words that don't follow standard phonetic rules by engaging different parts of their brain. First, the children Say It, looking closely at the word and identifying the "tricky" part that doesn't play fair. Next, they Build It using the magnetic letters, which helps them physically manipulate the sequence of sounds. Finally, they Write It using whiteboards to solidify their muscle memory. This hands-on sequence transforms abstract memorization into an interactive challenge, building both their reading confidence and their fine motor skills.
Reception- Expressive Arts and Design- My Gingerbread Man
This week, our Reception children have been fully immersed in a delightful sensory experience, using play dough to design and sculpt their very own gingerbread men. This hands-on activity encouraged the children to explore their creativity while strengthening their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Using gingerbread-shaped cutters, they carefully pressed out their figures before adding unique personality through various enhancements. They selected buttons to line up on the chest, small beads or "googly" eyes to bring the faces to life, and even used gingerbread cut-outs as templates to guide their designs. It was wonderful to see the children experimenting with different textures and shapes, turning a simple lump of dough into a colorful, imaginative character.
Nursery - PSHE - New Beginnings And Building Friendships
This week, our PSHE focus centered on Personal, Social, and Emotional Development as the children returned for the new half term. There was a sense of excitement as they explored the classroom and new learning opportunities. A key theme throughout the week was the concept that "sharing is caring." The children worked beautifully together when playing with the new resources, demonstrating patience and cooperation. They were particularly welcoming as we greeted new classmates joining the nursery for the first time. The children showed great empathy as they witnessed a range of emotions in the classroom. They were incredibly supportive, offering comfort to their new friends through kind gestures, such as giving a cuddle or offering a toy as a distraction. By inviting their new peers into their play, the children have already begun to form lovely new friendships, showing a wonderful understanding of inclusion and kindness.
Year 6: Maths - Ratio
This week in maths year 6 have begun to learn about ratio, we have been pattern spotting and thinking about whether we need to add or multiply numbers to continue the sequence. L.O: To calculate using additive or multiplicative structures.
Year 6: English - Macbeth
This week Year 6 have started responding to Macbeth, by William Shakespeare. We have looked at a range of front cover designs, and made evidence based predictions from our findings. L.O: To make evidence based predictions.
