Reception - Maths - Length
Today the children have been exploring length. We read the story Super worm and then using play dough we made our own Super-worms! The children had to place them in the correct order from longest to shortest. We then talked about how we could measure them, we selected some cubes from the maths shelf to work out how many cubes long they would be, with the children estimating first.
Year 3 Maths Measuring In Centimetres And Millimetres
In maths, Year 3 has been learning about measuring . Using a ruler they measured different lines and picture lengths and wrote their answers using both centimetres and millimetres.
Year 2 Maths - Multiplication and Division - Making Equal Groups
We have had many great mathematicians in Year 2 this week, continuing our learning on grouping and sharing.
Reception Class - Making Chocolate Mug Cakes!
The children were so excited this afternoon as we finally made our chocolate mug cakes. The children have been learning about ingredients and recipes this week, and our story has been Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen. The children had to follow the recipe, carefully counting the number of spoonfuls of each ingredient. We then talked about what would happen when we cooked the mug cakes in the microwave. Some of the mug cakes rose so high, they spilled over the sides like a chocolate volcano!
Nursery - Maths - Constructing A Brick House For The Little Pig
Our focused story for this week has been 'The three little pigs'. The children have been experimenting with different materials to build houses for the pigs. Today we made brick houses with the lego. The children persevered when linking the blocks together and made some beautiful structures for their pigs to live in. Some children used positional language in their play describing the placement of their bricks, 'on top'. We then pretended to be the big bad wolf to see if our brick houses were strong or if they would fall down!
Year 5 Maths: Finding Fractions of an Amount
In Maths we are learning how to find a fraction of an amount using counters. It's helping us to visualise the problems!
Year 2 Maths - Making Equal Groups
We have been working super hard this week in Maths! We have been making equal groups by grouping and sharing. Our team here in Year 2 have been amazing at demonstrating that practice makes progress! Well done.
Nursery - Maths - Using Size And Number Language
During maths this week we have been working on number language and understanding size. The children played a game together, hiding golden coins under different sized cups. The only clue they could give to their friends, to help find the coins, was the size of the cup they were hidden under. The children worked really hard to identify the big, medium and small cups. Once the coins were found, the children were encouraged to count their coins, some children did this independently!
Reception - Maths - 6,7,8
This week the children have been developing their number sense this week, focussing on the numbers 6,7 and 8. We have been identifying, ordering and representing these numbers.
Year 3 Maths - Division With A Remainder
In maths Year 3 have been dividing a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number and finding remainders. We first used lolly sticks to make triangles and squares and then we moved onto counters to make groups and see if there were any remainders.
Pre-School- Maths- Match, Talk, Push and Pull
In maths this week we have been exploring shapes. We looked at basic 2D shapes and then some 3D shapes looking at what happens if we put them together to make a different shape or could we create a picture or object with them. Children used the 2D shapes to make houses, faces and even dinosaurs while other children used the 3D shapes to make towers or rockets.
Nursery - Fine Motor Skills - Threading
Our fine motor focus this week has been threading! The children were provided with wooden dowels and big beads, their task, to fill up their dowels with various different shapes. This activity has been available for the children to explore all week and they have thoroughly enjoyed filling and emptying their dowels. Some children were able to use their maths knowledge to count their beads and also describe the shape and colour of each bead they used. Well done, nursery class.
