Reception - Science - Exploring the Snow
Reception Class had a great time exploring the snow and ice. We added paint to the snow and made marks, we moved some of the equipment to see different shapes, we poured water over the snow and the ice and we used different methods to try and break the ice. We then had to throw snowballs at different numbers/graphemes and tricky words that were written in chalk.
Pre-School- PSHE-Taking Turns and Sharing
We have been developing our taking turns and sharing skills this week. We have played a pairs game and needed to match the animals. The children had to wait their turn and watch what was happening when the other player took their turn. Children struggled at first to wait their turn and how to play the game but with some guidance we had lots of fun.
Year 6: Maths - Learning by Questions
During maths Year 6 have been using Learning by Questions to develop and consolidate learning in class. LBQ is a fantastic online tool and we have really enjoyed beginning to use it in class!
Nursery - Maths - Making Reindeer Dust
On our malleable table this week, Nursery class have been making reindeer dust. The children have used spoons, cups, jugs, bowls and various other objects to scoop the ingredients and create their reindeer dust. The children were challenged to use their listening skills and follow an instruction such as, 'one cup of oats' and 'a sprinkle of glitter'. We counted out the scoops as the children added more and encouraged the children to count along and repeat key words 'more' 'empty' and 'full'. Once everything was measured and mixed the children filled up little bags to take home for Santa's reindeer on Christmas eve.
Reception Class - Maths - Writing Numbers
The children have been busy practising their number formation this week! Some great progress has been made this term, well done Reception!
Year 3 Maths - Solving Subtraction And Addition Problems to 100
During maths , Year 3 have been looking at solving maths problems for numbers up to 100, using subtraction and addition. Using a highlighter they read through each question highlighting words and numbers to help them find the answers.
Year 2 - Maths - Properties of 2D Shapes
In maths we have been developing our knowledge on 2D shapes. We have been counting the sides and the vertices. Then we made our own 2D shapes as part of an investigation.
Pre-School- Maths- Exploring Patterns
The children created different patterns with the building blocks. We worked out which colours were next in the sequence and continued to make the pattern.
Nursery - Literacy - Fine Motor Skills - Decorating The Christmas Tree
In Nursery class this week, we have been getting into the Christmas spirit! We got our Christmas tree out and an array of decorations for the children to hang on the tree. The children were encouraged to use a pincer grip to open the string on the baubles, perfect early practice for pencil grip! We also spoke about the colours that the children could see. Found big and small baubles. Discussed the shapes we could see. And spoke about the textures of the different decorations, shiny, sparkly, smooth, rough, fluffy... The children have loved rearranging the baubles throughout the week and admiring the different decorations.
Reception Class - Maths - Subitising
Reception Class have been consolidating their mathematical knowledge this week, revising subitising. The children have been working really hard at using their 'fast eyes' to say how many dots they saw and what it looked like. Some children said they saw a heart, a triangle and a person. The children then subitised numbers 1 to 5 and matched the quantity to the numeral.
Year 1 - Computing - Creating A Pictogram
Year 1 collated data by rolling a dice 20 times. They then produced pictograms to represent the data.
Nursery - Maths - Investigating Big And Small
In Nursery class this week we have started looking at opposites. The first opposite we investigated was big and small. The children used their good looking skills to find and match two objects on the table that varied in size, they were then tasked with vocally labelling each item as big or small. The children then enjoyed taking part in this activity with a friend during independent learning, taking turns to find the first object for the other friend to match. Nursery class showed a good awareness on big and small, well done everyone!
