Nursery - Earth Day

Today is Earth Day! To commemorate this day our activity was based on how we look after our world! During this activity, the children demonstrated a clear understanding of where rubbish belongs. When rubbish was scattered in our clean classroom the children pointed and expressed that it needed to go in the bin! Their immediate reaction and verbalisation show strong expressive language skills. The children then worked together to collect and dispose of all the rubbish that had been planted in the classroom, using brilliant observation skills to find every piece of rubbish. At the craft table, the children selected pieces of blue and green tissue paper and attempted to stick them onto the paper using PVA glue. They initially struggled with spreading the glue but persevered, using their index finger to dab and spread it, showing developing fine motor skills. The children made links with the blue area being water and some children made links with animals that they might see living in the water. At the malleable table, the children manipulated the blue and green playdough, using a pinching action to pull off small pieces and moulding them together. When asked what they were making, they replied, "Earth!" Their manipulation of the playdough using pinching, rolling, and splatting showcases developing gross and fine motor skills.

Pre-School-PSHE-Courageous Advocacy

Today we had a super fun session all about making sure everyone feels happy, included and listened to! We talked about how we show kindness and respect in our environment, and the children had lots of brilliant ideas. They helped make decisions by voting for the story they wanted to hear—everyone added their vote to the chart and we counted up which story won! The children became the teachers for the day, choosing which activities we should do and what resources we should use. They were amazing at listening to each other, sharing ideas, and making sure everyone had a say. We also chatted about fairness and why it’s so important to be kind to everyone. Later on in the garden, the children worked as a team to move a big log—they helped each other, made a plan and got it done together. Teamwork and big smiles all around!

Nursery - Fine Motor Skills - Buttons

This weeks fine motor activity has been using buttons! Buttons can be tricky for little fingers to try and navigate however this is a very important skill that the children have been learning. This prepares the children for dressing themselves, which builds independence. We have also been building on the children's hand eye coordination and problem-solving skills as they figure out how to manipulate the buttons. This activity has also been great for strengthening the small muscles in their hands and fingers, preparing for writing, drawing, and other everyday tasks.

Online Safety - Roblox

Whilst they can be a great way for friends to socialise, online games like Roblox that allow multiplayer gameplay with strangers are always fraught with a variety of dangers that can expose children to inappropriate or harmful content. Roblox enables people to play anonymously, which can often be something that attracts people to misuse the game and potentially put young people at risk of harm. In addition to interacting with random strangers across the world, other factors such as in-game purchases and potential scams can also pose a financial risk. It’s important that parents and educators remain aware of the risks associated with this popular title and how it can be used safely. This free guide – also available in podcast format – offers parents and educators expert advice on what can be done to ensure that young people have a safe and enjoyable experience with Roblox.
