Year 2 - Bounce Back - Resilience
Ever wondered how a "Colour Monster" can help children build life-long resilience? This week, our Year 2 pupils took an exciting step in their wellbeing journey during a ‘Bounce Forward’ workshop led by James from Mind Lancashire. After diving into the story of The Colour Monster to identify and untangle different emotions, the children shared their favourite ways to stay calm and regulated. To celebrate their new skills, everyone got creative by decorating "Crowns of Calm", serving as a colourful reminder that they have the tools to bounce back from any challenge!
Spring Clubs are back and they’re brilliant!
Our Spring 2026 after-school clubs are ready to go and they are packed with fun, creativity, and energy. This term children can get stuck into Kurling, Dodgeball, Lego Challenge, Art Club, Computing, Book Club, and our brand new Geography Explorers Club. Whether they love building, coding, creating, reading, discovering the world, or burning off energy, there’s something to get excited about. Clubs run from 3.20pm–4.00pm, with collection from the front entrance. Most clubs cost £4.00 for the full 10-week block, not per week, and some clubs are free. Spaces are limited, so don’t wait too long. Clubs start WC 12/1/26, with the final week WC 23/3/26. All bookings are through ParentPay. After-school fun starts here – let’s make it a great term!
Year 2 Maths: Counting Money in Pence
Year 2 have started the new term with their brand-new maths topic: Money! The children worked together to explore the value of different coins and master the art of counting in pence. Through different challenges, Year 2 shared their ideas to add different coins and discovered that there is often more than one way to make an amount. This hands-on approach has not only boosted their counting confidence but also helped us with our multiplication knowledge!
Year 2 Art: Drawing Using a Photo From a Video
Year 2's new art topic is "Exploring the World Through Monoprint," and our young artists have already made a stunning start. To find their inspiration, the children carefully watched a nature film, pausing at different moments to capture the wonders of the wild in their art. Year 2 worked hard to develop the skill of observational drawing by practicing the "look and draw" technique, constantly glancing back and forth between the screen and their paper to make sure they were drawing accurately. By focusing on these fine details, Year 2 are building a fantastic foundation for the next stage of their monoprinting adventure!
Year 2 - Design Technology - Healthy Wraps
Our Year 2 designers have been busy exploring the world of nutrition as they designed and created their very own healthy wraps! After studying the Eatwell Plate, the children gained a fantastic understanding of how a balanced diet—incorporating various food groups—provides our bodies with the different nutrients they need to stay strong and energised. Putting their culinary skills to the test, the students carefully prepared their chosen ingredients by practicing precise cutting, grating, and peeling. Once their vibrant wraps were assembled, the lesson concluded with a thoughtful evaluation, where the children reflected on their flavor combinations and making process. Well done, Year 2, for being such creative and health-conscious chefs!

Year 2 - English - Christmas Poems
Year 2 have concluded their poetry unit with an amazing final project: festive poems all about Christmas! The children have worked hard to master the use of adjectives, using powerful describing words to bring their writing to life. School Council- PSHE- Spreading Christmas Cheer in the Community
Our school council members took on a wonderfully heartwarming project this week by organizing and performing a special nativity play exclusively for the residents of a local nursing home. The pupils demonstrated incredible dedication, rehearsing their roles as Mary, Joseph, shepherds, and angels to bring the traditional story to life. The performance was met with warm applause and generated a tangible sense of festive cheer among the residents, providing a lovely inter-generational connection. Following the play, the children personally greeted the residents, shared handmade cards, and offered sincere wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, reinforcing the school's commitment to community spirit and kindness during the holiday season.
Year 2 - Maths - Sorting 2D Shapes
Year 2 pupils engaged in a hands-on, collaborative sorting activity to deepen their knowledge of two-dimensional shapes. Working together brilliantly, they applied their geometric vocabulary to classify shapes based on their type, number of edges, and number of vertices.
